Guidelines
The Courant Community Fund, a fund of the McCormick Foundation, is committed to raising funds from our readers and the general public in support of organizations and initiatives that are dedicated to improving the human condition of children, youth and family life in our marketplace.

Grants are made in response to applications from nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organizations in the communities of Hartford, Tolland and Middlesex counties that address programs supporting women, children and family life issues.

Primary Interests
Children and Youth
  • Educational and literacy based programs for children through age 18
  • Prevention programs and initiatives designed to deter risk related behavior including substance abuse and violence
  • Early childhood development programs
  • Holiday gifts including toys, clothes and food for children of need generally through age 15

Family Welfare
  • Programs that strengthen and support the family structure including parenting and nutritional programs
  • Programs that provide for the elderly population to remain independent and remain productive citizens
  • Programs that provide support and encouragement to those living with a physical and or mental disability

Special Grants
  • In special situations, The Courant Community Fund may consider and recommend grants not specifically included in the priority interests as stated in the program guidelines.

Application Procedures
All requests for support from The Courant Community Fund, a fund of the McCormick Foundation, require a completed application form to be received at the address above. Applications will be considered throughout the year in the order in which they are received.

The Foundation's board of directors meets quarterly and grants are authorized at those meetings and distributed shortly thereafter. There is no guarantee of annual support.

The McCormick Foundation does not make grants to programs that would financially benefit Tribune Company or any of its subsidiaries.
