Museum Security Officer

Department: McCormick Freedom Museum

Principal Function

Provide security and safety to the staff and visitors, as well as protecting the physical assets of the museum.

Responsibilities

  1. Monitor the security equipment in the museum, following standard procedures as outlined in the general and specific orders.
  2. Be knowledgeable in a wide range of information about the museum, and the surrounding area, in order to be able to answer questions of the staff and visitors.
  3. While on patrol, make continual security and safety checks of all of the museum facilities and report all findings as per established procedures.
  4. Provide emergency medical aid and first aid as required.
  5. Performs crowd control, and has knowledge/training in emergency procedures, follows through with reports about exhibit malfunctions; guest behavior, needs or questions.
  6. Provides exceptional services to visitors including: handicap assistance, special needs visitors, coats, and luggage handling.
  7. Follows through on established policies, procedures and departmental objectives.
  8. Be flexible to work in all operational areas as needed.

Requirements

  1. High School Diploma/GED required.
  2. Experience in security or related field.
  3. Strong customer service skills
  4. Good physical condition, able to walk and stand for extended periods of time, to assist with labor as needed, and some lifting required above chest level.
  5. Must have a flexible schedule and able to work weekends, holidays, and evening events.
  6. Excellent communication skills; must be proficient in the ability to communicate telephonically in English.
  7. Self starter with a professional appearance and attitude.
  8. Computer knowledge a plus.
  9. Familiarity with museum environment or similar capacity a plus.
  10. Other duties as assigned.
